Hunting Dogs Reviews

Choosing the most appropriate rifle scope for a black bear hunt can be a difficult thing to do but with a little bit of research anything can be accomplished. This article will try to make your life easier if you plan on purchasing rifle scopes but keep in mind that there are other solutions as well, we are offering just only a few, the final choice is up to you.

For low light conditions we recommend that you purchase a scope with low magnification (2X - 4X), big objective lens (40mm - 50mm) and a heavy thick reticule. The large objective will allow more ambient light and will give you a wider field of view. Combining this with the low magnification you will get a large exit pupil which means that it will be much more easier to acquire your target when you mount the scope to your eye. You should know that the 30mm tubes don’t allow more light and they are standard for some brands but they don’t have any advantages in comparison with a 1” tube.

We feel that the “European“ style is a wise choice for low light conditions and we consider that it is way more easier to use in comparison with the standard Duplex crosshair. On a bright and sunny day the cheap scopes will work just fine as the more expensive models but at dusk or later in the day, they are almost useless. For low light conditions you will be needing top quality glass with fully coated lenses. A big game scope should have at least a 2-inch dot but preferably, a 3-inch dot is recommended for optimal results. The 3-inch dot covers 3 inches at 100 yards and 6 inches at 200 yards.

Using a receiver sight (peep sight) will reduce the factors from 3 to 2 but the human eye is still forced to flick back and forth. Fortunately, this is not the case with a scope because a scope takes the guesswork out of aiming. With a properly mounted scope focused for the eye of the user, the reticule (aiming device in the scope) and the target appear to be part of the same image, both in sharp focus for the eye of the hunter. There is no real eye strain, and a well-aimed shot can be fired much more quickly with a scope than with iron or open sights.
